Guides

Quick start: your first week with Wiikly

Wiikly helps you build a clear picture of your money by recording activity and reviewing it regularly. Start with the basics, then add budgets and savings goals when you are ready.

1

Set up your profile and account

Choose your country and display currency, then add an account such as a bank account or cash wallet. Your account is a place to organize entries; Wiikly does not move money.

2

Record income and expenses

Add an entry with its amount, date, account, and category. You can also import a bank statement from CSV, PDF, or Excel, review the rows, and correct the details before saving.

3

Make a budget that fits your plans

Create a budget, choose its amount and schedule, and set the categories or accounts it should include. Check the budget during the week to see how your spending is progressing.

4

Set a savings goal

Add a target amount and, if useful, a target date. Link eligible activity to the goal to keep its progress up to date.

5

Review your week

Open Weekly Review to check what came in, what went out, entries that need attention, and how your budgets and goals are tracking. Use Reports & Insights to compare periods and explore category and cash-flow patterns.

A useful rhythm is simple: record activity as it happens, then set aside a few minutes each week to review it and adjust your plans.

Accounts and currency

Accounts help you keep activity organized by where money is held, such as a bank account or cash. Choose a primary account and profile currency in Settings. You can keep accounts in different currencies; summaries and reports use your selected display currency where conversions are available. Only add the account details the app asks for and needs.

Record and import activity

Record income and expenses from Activity, or import a CSV, PDF, or Excel statement. For spreadsheet files, map the statement columns to date, description, and amount (or money in and money out), then review the entries, categories, and possible duplicates before importing. Imported rows are not saved until you confirm them. Check your bank statement and correct any mismatched dates, amounts, or categories during review.

Create and understand budgets

Create a budget with a name, amount, currency, and period. You can scope it by categories and accounts so it reflects the activity you want to follow. Wiikly updates budget progress from matching entries. Open a budget to see its spending breakdown and progress over time; use the budget filters to understand which entries are included.

Track a savings goal

Set a goal name and target amount, then add a target date if you have one. Track eligible contributions against the goal and review its progress in Savings Goals. A goal is a tracking tool; it does not transfer funds or change your bank balance.

Make the most of Weekly Review

Weekly Review brings together the selected week’s income, expenses, entries that need review, and progress on budgets and savings goals. Work through entries that need attention, then save the review when you are done. You can revisit earlier weeks from the review history.

Explore Reports & Insights

Reports & Insights summarizes activity over a week, month, quarter, year, or custom date range. Filter the view by account, currency, and category, and compare it with the previous period. You can also export a report as CSV or print it to PDF.

Manage privacy and your data

Settings includes privacy controls such as masking balances and tools to export your Wiikly data. Review exported files before sharing them and keep them somewhere secure. Wiikly can help you understand your finances, but it never initiates payments or moves money.

Frequently asked questions

How do I connect Wiikly to ChatGPT with OAuth?

First, review your MCP permissions in Wiikly Settings → Accounts & tools and save the permissions you want ChatGPT to have. In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, choose +, then Add custom MCP server. Enter this Wiikly server URL and choose OAuth: https://wiikly-mcp-277392342892.europe-west3.run.app/mcp Create the connector. Sign in to Wiikly when prompted and approve the connection. ChatGPT discovers Wiikly’s OAuth settings automatically; you do not need to create or paste a remote access token. The connector is private to your ChatGPT account unless you choose to share or publish it. To disconnect it, revoke it in Wiikly under Settings → Accounts & tools → OAuth MCP connections. Wiikly tools cannot initiate payments or move money.

How do I connect another remote MCP client with an access token?

In Wiikly Settings → Accounts & tools, enable only the MCP permissions you want and save. Under Remote MCP connection tokens, enter a connection name, choose Create token, then copy the token when it appears; Wiikly will not show it again. In a client that supports bearer-token authentication, use the server URL https://wiikly-mcp-277392342892.europe-west3.run.app/mcp with the header Authorization: Bearer <token>. Tokens expire after 90 days and can be revoked in the same Settings section. ChatGPT custom MCP connections use OAuth; follow the ChatGPT connection instructions above instead of entering a remote access token. Keep your token private.

Does Wiikly connect to my bank automatically?

The current app supports recording entries manually and importing CSV, PDF, or Excel bank statements. It does not automatically connect to or sync with your bank. Review statement rows before importing them.

What statement file formats can I import?

You can import CSV, PDF, and Excel (.xlsx) statements. Spreadsheet imports include a column mapping step. Review the parsed entries and possible duplicates before confirming.

Can I change a category after recording an entry?

Yes. Open the entry in Activity and edit its details. Keeping categories accurate helps budgets and reports show a more useful picture.

Why is an entry not included in my budget?

Check that the entry falls within the budget period and uses an account and category included by that budget’s filters. Open the budget to review its settings and included activity.

How do I change the currency used in summaries?

Change your profile currency in Settings. Accounts can have their own currencies, while overall summaries and reports use the profile currency where conversion is available.

Does adding money to a savings goal move money?

No. A goal tracks progress using activity you link or record. Wiikly does not transfer money or initiate payments.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Settings provides an option to export your data. Reports & Insights also supports report exports as CSV or PDF. Store exported files securely because they may contain personal financial information.

Where can I find a previous weekly review?

Open Weekly Review and choose the period you want to see. Completed reviews remain available in the review history.

Ready to put it into practice?
